At Ojon™ we are committed to providing you with products that are unparalleled in quality and performance while helping to sustain one of the world's most valuable natural and cultural treasures. Ojon™ partners with the Miskito people who produce Ojon™ to help preserve their way of life and their precious rainforests for the benefit of us all.
Ojon™ is proud to work closely with MOPAWI - a non-profit group dedicated to promoting sustainable development in the native Miskito and Garifuna populations in the Mosquitia region of north-eastern Honduras. La Mosquitia is home to the indigenous communities that harvest the ingredients used to create Ojon™ products. A commitment to sustainability, protecting the rainforests and preserving the traditional indigenous way of life in Honduras are always our top priority.
When we began our partnership with the Miskito, we worked with 200 local producers. There are now thousands of native producers of nature's golden elixir.
Scholarship funds, safety standards and rainforest preservation measures have also been put into place. In the past, contributions have helped build new housing (see images below) and spearhead scholarship initiatives for local youth.
Ojon™ recently broke ground on a secondary school and hurricane shelter that will be a valuable resource for the communities in the Mosquitia region. The remote locations of the villages make it difficult for children to attend school.
Ojon™ funds expeditions and research to help protect the Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve and promote biodiversity conservation. Rio Platano is one of the most important protected areas of the Mesoamerica corridor and has been nominated for consideration as one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. Ojon™'s work helps enhance our understanding of the biological diversity of Central America by investigating the ecosystems in the region and determining how best to protect them.
From a production standpoint, we're extremely proud of our commitment to sustainable harvesting. Pure Ojon™ Oil has been certified by the Rainforest Alliance, an international nonprofit organization founded in 1987 that helps people change the way they manage their land — including how they harvest wood, grow food and host tourists. The Rainforest Alliance works to conserve bio-diversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land use practices, business practices and consumer behavior. The Rainforest Alliance is working with Ojon™ to create sustainable environments and livelihoods for the communities in La Mosquitia, Honduras to increase the efficiency of harvesting practices.
Pure Ojon™ Oil is not sourced through plantations — the process is done entirely by hand. The trees grow wild in Honduras and every season they will bear new fruit. All outer product packaging is also Forest Stewardship Council Certified and comprised of at least 50% post-consumer paper products.
Ojon™ is continually exploring opportunities to help further support the people and ecological diversity of La Mosquitia with donations and initiatives that help protect the rainforests and traditional way of life in Honduras.
